IV Sedation in Union City, CA

If treatment needs extend significantly (major), if the patient is of a certain age, or if there's severe dental anxiety or special healthcare needs, Nitrous oxide or sedation alone may not suffice. In such cases, we collaborate with board-certified pediatric anesthesiologists to ensure comprehensive care for your child. Under the supervision of our Pediatric Anesthesiologist our Pediatric Dentists, will carry out the necessary dental procedures. With sedation general anesthesia, the patient will be unconscious throughout the procedure, which typically lasts between 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. Upon awakening, all dental procedures will have been successfully completed.

We approach this appointment with utmost seriousness, ensuring that our patient receives all necessary medical consultations and clearance before scheduling.

How do we put a child under general anesthesia?

For the safest and most comfortable treatment of young children with extensive decay, we regularly engage the services of an Anesthesiologist at our office. The Anesthesiologist administers oral medication to induce drowsiness in the child. Following this, an IV is started to administer the appropriate dosage of drugs for complete sedation. While the child is fully asleep, the Anesthesiologist monitors their breathing and vital signs, while our ,pediatric dentist carries out all necessary treatment.

What are the advantages of general anesthesia?

  • Minimized Trauma: A significant advantage of administering sedation during dental procedures for children is the reduction in potential trauma associated with extensive dental work.
  • Therapeutic Effects: Certain medications used in treatment can assist the child in forgetting the details of their dental procedure.
  • Comprehensive Care: Furthermore, once the child is fully asleep, all necessary treatments, including X-rays, fillings, crowns, and cleanings, can be completed simultaneously, ensuring a non-traumatic and comfortable experience for the child.
  • Fun Finale: We wrap up the visit with a popsicle party and exciting prizes!
